Younger than The Lightning Rail is the emerging technology of airships. Development of the technology began only a decade prior to the Tarrasque attack during the tensions between Bodenolf and Al-Maisan by the former. It was to be used primarily as a weapon against the forces of Astridious Az-Zubana though did not reach completion. After the tyrant’s fall, the blue prints were quickly re-purposed for use as a cargo transport when infrastructures of many nations were demolished. Later it became a transport for the more wealthy, with the most upper echelon owning their own private vessels.
Airships appear much like sea fearing ships, though with several key differences. Instead of sails, they have several large masts (typically four) that are composed of pure elemental ore that has been refined numerous times, usually from an air element ore, though others are not unheard of. These masts act as tuning rods, drawing air to them and down through the ship which is primarily constructed of a special timber most often referred to as floatwood. Other elemental ores and building material have also been used, though to varying degrees of success. The process behind mining and gathering all the materials and constructing a true airship is only know by a select few and information pertaining to them is often sought after and valued. Because of this, airships are now seen as more of an indication of status than a workhorse of the modern age.
