The Iron Desert
Amidst the mystery and intrigue on and brought to Saiph, one thing is certain. The massive desert that has eaten up the western half of the continent is not something that was there before the Exodus. Even the oldest Eladrin tomes have no record of such a large expanse, nor have any story or myths been passed through the ages. The Iron Desert is an entirely alien and unique feature on Saiph and perhaps all of Talamh. Named apply for its iron-rust red hue, any geologist from Bodenolf could tell you that a desert composed of such a heavy sediment would get compacted down, but this material is something more. The desert is rife with elemental energies that give the heavy iron sand buoyancy. Earth, air and water come together to form a mind bending desert. Due to the extreme dangers presented by such an infusion of raw elemental energy few even dream of exploring it. Being caught in an iron-dust storm is a gruesome way to die.
While some believe there are lost treasures out in the desert, few give it a second thought, at least until there is a safer way to traverse the dangerous landscape. The few mages and scientists who have studied the desert can not get far enough in to determine the source of the elemental infusion. There are murmurs and rumors that desert has expanded since 1137sd when Saiph was rediscovered. These rumors have not been validated, but a nervous eye has been kept on the desert since the arrival of new settlers on Saiph.
